Holiday Event Inspiration Board part 2

The Holidays are coming and that means fun, food and parties!!! It also means stress for the person hosting it! But don't fret - we got you covered! Just purchase a design board and we will help you design your very own party! In our last post, we showed you the Thanksgiving and Winter Wonderland post and by popular request, we have done the traditional Christmas one.

Inspiration Boards are an essential tool to the event planning process. For weddings, baby showers, childrens birthday parties and everything in between. Generally speaking, they are a collaboration of photos, colors, fabrics, textures and anything else that can inspire an event idea. These are mixed together to create a concrete visual idea of the design the client would love to have.

Whether you have a small or large budget we can help by providing you with photos for inspiration and links to resources to purchase products or instructions to do-it-yourself-projects.

INCLUDES:
• Photos of inspiration plus links to products. These may include invitations, party favors, place cards, centerpieces, etc.

What I will need from you: event, date, theme you need help with, any other information that would help in the planning, an email for communication

Please allow 2 weeks for us to research photos and product information.
Like any ideas above? I will customize them for your needs.

Moving Mondays: Business of Creating Joy

"You don't sell a commodity, you sell joy, gaiety, excitement. You aim at people's hearts, not their minds." - Dorothy Draper, Detroit News

An interior Designer creates more than just a space. They are hired to not only design but to bring joy into someone's life. Interior Design is not just about a fee but a connection. Our client's happiness is our top priority. We listen to needs and wants and mesh the two to create a perfect balance.  So when you hire an interior designer, you are hiring a friend!

What makes me happy?

Designing and helping people create beautiful spaces in their homes is what makes me most happy. I love to see the joy in my client's face when they finally see the finished product. At first, they are skeptical of the outcome but once it comes together, I can leave their place knowing that I made their day that much brighter.

What's even better?
The feeling for them last longer. If it's an event - every time they see the pictures, they are reminded of what I did for them and how they felt. If it's a space, they are reminded every time they walk by that room or are in that room. That feeling has got to be good. Isn't it?

What makes you happy?

Let us help you create a beautiful space that will make you happy for years to come. For all of our readers anywhere in the world, our e-consultation service is affordable and convenient and perfect for choosing the perfect colors, fabrics and furniture. Trendy Tuesdays: Black: The New Stainless Steel?

Say it Ain't So! It seems like Black is the NEW Stainless Steel in Kitchen Appliances. More and more interior designers are seeing the stainless steel craze slowly dying. According to an article in the Wall Street Journal, "Is this the end of a 25-year run for stainless steel?", manufacturers have already made bets that black appliances will take over.

Source

The article goes on to say that, "While stainless steel is still the dominant look, there are clear signals it has outworn its welcome, even with no clear successor in place."  No doubt, kitchen trends are always changing.

From the Leave it To Beaver days with the pastel refrigerators to just recently a trend that barely didn't catch on, "copper appliances" The kitchen design world has even tried on for size meteor inspired appliances but none have been able to outdo the power of the stainless steel appliance. So will this trend hold up to its hype? Are we ready to move away from the big steel gadgets in our kitchen?

Would you replace your stainless steel appliances for these? Why or why not?

Event: Girly Outdoor Birthday Party in Aqua and Pink

here's a little aqua and pink birthday bash I threw together for one of my best friends. She's very girly and so I envisioned girly things like jewelry, pink and tiaras. I gave it a little vintage style a la Marilyn Monroe. Since it was outdoors, I couldn't catch the best lighting so I don't have many pictures.

The Best Dressed Table in the Park

Party Details

The outdoor birthday bash was to be simple - maybe prop a cake on a small table with some balloons to let the guests know where we had stationed ourselves. But why be simple and boring when you've got an event planner as a best friend? My sentiments EXACTLY!
I went with a whimsical shabby chic decor - most used in my interior designs. I designed a cake trio and with the help of her friend, it was nicely executed. Bought some tiara and jewelry from a costume jewelry shop. The aqua vase found it at Homegoods as well as the 2 pink champagne glasses. I stuffed the glasses with jewelry and fake flower leaves. I did use my own pearls to wrap around the main cake stand.
What do you think of this event design?

CHALLENGE: Best apps for a busy workday!!

What if my computer broke down? How would I conduct business? Could I conduct business just from my iPad and IPhone?

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!!
Today, my challenge is to conduct business as usual using only these devices. So did I accomplish it? How did I do it?

Here's how I did it:

My day always starts out with a Tweet and a Facebook post. Both iPhone and iPad have integrated these two vital social networks within their OS. so it's quick and easy to post a quick update and a quick tweet.

I then look,at any emails for any Etsy orders since they are time sensitive using the Etsy app. I usually have several orders that I need to disperse to my designers so I have to write the details and send them off. I get paid via Paypal so I look at the app to check the balance.

My Contact Us form is powered by JotForm and they have an app!! I can access notes that clients have sent me through there. They can be as specific or general as they choose. I usually have about 2 to three contacts.

If I've had any previous design orders or e-consultations, I look into Quicksale and check for any open invoices and new invoices to send to clients for work estimated or started. I use Googke Voice for my business line at the time and Dropbox for all my files for easy access. Blogspy allows me to write this very blog post from my iPad and Efax lets me fax anyone their potential marketing, event or design plan if they choose Fax over email.

I then view the insights on my Facebook business page using Facebook Page Manager. From here, I can check to see if my promoted ads have been reaching potential clients. I Instagram my Daily Design Tips and I tweet and Retweet any new interior design news. I pin any new design from my website or blog.

The last big thing of the day is to work on any layouts and mood boards for new clients using Home Design and Moodboard, respectively.

And that's how I did it!!!! And now I get to relax in bed and watch Steel Magnolias (which I've never seen) in bed on my Netflix app.

TRY THE CHALLENGE AND POST ON OUR FACEBOOK HOW YOU DID IT!!!

Event: "Ahoy, It's A Boy" Theme for a Babyshower

i was asked to design a baby shower for a baby boy. I came up with something a little different. Why not a nautical theme? The idea was simple and cute and now my next task would be to be able to find nautical items in a timely fashion. But I did and it came out beautifully.

The Invite

I researched many designers and their nautical artwork and this invitation stood out the most. The words themselves formed an anchor and the colors matched what I was going for perfectly.

The Touches

Original Invitation

1. Heat Tranfer image for Custom Pillow
2. Cake Pops
3 & 4: Stickers for Favor Boxes

Unique Idea: Ribbon sash around belly

Party Details

I designed this Nautical baby shower a while back but haven't been able to post the details. I had free reign if the baby was a boy and so I was able to come up with whatever I decided. I was watching Popeye and instantly thought of a Nautical themed baby shower.

For this party, I decorated the guest tables with white soft cloth linens and a navy blue runner, Tabletops all featured a piece of nautical decor - lanterns, anchors, sand and sea shells. I competed the look with the vintage nautical images I had printed on card stock, nautical themed napkins and the party favor boxes. It looked so elegant and was indeed very inexpensive.
The main cake table was designed with a cake trio. I wanted the cakes to be the main attraction and so I placed very few items on the table. The linen was a soft t-shirt material with a navy blue and beige tablecloth. It set the stage for the decor with beige, red, navy blue and light blue.  I added a vintage sailboat, star fishes and sand vases.
Her chair was covered in linens and I made her a custom pillow with the same custom image I had used on the onesie hanging on the wall.
It was one of my favorite parties to design and the mom-to-be loved everything.
