Event: "Cute as a Button" Baby Shower Theme

i wanted to do a sophisticated take on the "Cute As A Button" idea I had seen. I came up with this very adorable theme and used buttons wherever possible. The mother-to-be was having a girl so I chose a soft pink and soft gray combination.

The Invite
The invite was custom made by one of our Etsy Shop "This Old Thing"  designers. We have it on hand in case you would like this invite for your own event.

Party Details

I recently designed this cute as a button theme baby shower.  The mother to be LOVED pink and so I knew I would be working with that - especially since she was having a girl. I wanted it to be pink and very girly but with a dash of sophistication.
For this party, we focused mostly on the table and made it into a dessert area. The star of the dessert table was the stunning cake made by Lyndie of Lyndie's Cakes.  The mom-to-be wanted a pregnant belly cake and so she mimicked our color pattern of soft pink and gray and added the cutest buttons to the cake dress. Lyndie also made cute buttons and needles made out of fondant to top our cupcakes.  The incredible cake pops were made by my an Etsy shop owner who I love. I love how she customized it with the mom-to-be's name and date of shower. My husband made the onesie cookies and covered them in pink and white fondant. We used apothecary vases and filled them with even more goodies - gumdrops and sixlets in coordinating colors.
The picture I used to center the table was an Anne Geddes' picture I printed and added the words "Cute as a Button" with the "O" being an actual pink button I purchased at Michael's. On a separate plate, I placed the cute favor boxes made by another etsy shop owner. I thought they came out wonderfully!
It came out beautiful and the mom-to-be loved it! Hope you enjoyed it as well.

Event: "I Love Lucy" Inspired Theme

i had the pleasure to work on my niece's 1st birthday party! The darling girl was born on Valentine's Day so anything love related was appropriate. I, of course, did not want to do the generic valentine's hearts and pink and red - I thought of something a little more vintage and never before seen.

I got my inspiration one night while going through my DVD's - I came across these images. I instantly thought of the red heart that is part of the opening of the show and the black and white polka dot dress she so often wore with her red lipstick. These things became part of my decor. I made it a little younger by also adding the red and white polka dots.

Table decor was a cardboard wrapped with polka dot and red strips going across the table. Vases were full of black and white sand white red gravel to top them. The main centerpiece was a white frame (purchased at Michael's for a dollar) and some scrapbook embellishments. I made the pictures black and white to keep the vintage feel going.

It was by far one of the best themes I've ever done and would love to do again!

House Hunting: Just Build Your Own Home

house hunting can be so chaotic, exhilarating and stressful all at the same time. You see something you love and immediately start picturing your life and your things in them. Sometimes the price isn't right for you or it's too little for the amount of money you have to spend on it. Sometimes, the repairs outweigh the beauty of it and through it all you'd need a contractor to gut the whole thing.

That's why I'm writing this blog post today. Why not build your dream home? I know it sounds scary but think about how in control you'll be about the things you want and need in your home. From staircases to bathrooms to open space kitchens, it'll be all in your hands!

Slip into Something Sexy: Your Bedroom Makeover

we all know February to be the month of love and romance. For me, it shouldn't be one month - it should be 365 days a year. Whether you are single or married, you can bring sexiness and romance into your room for the other 11 months!

So slip into something a little more sexy for your bedroom with these super sexy bedroom ideas and watch the sparks fly!

Style: You want your bedroom to feel like a spa - a getaway, the room where all the magic happens! The key to perfecting this look is by having very few items in your bedroom as you'd find in a hotel!

Color: Use serene color schemes that remind you of a beach resort. You'll feel like you're on vacation every time you step through the doors.

Layout: Create an oasis centered around your bed by adding a sexy headboard and lighting. You can also create a getaway look by making a canopy!
  • Furniture: Make your bed your focal point. Add dramatic interest with canopies or headboards! If your bedroom has a fireplace, create a living space surrounding the fireplace with a couple of chairs and a coffee table that fits the space. Place some nice coffee table books on vacation spots or beautiful photography.
  • Storage: Since we don't want sexy, romantic bedrooms to feel and look cluttered, we need to come up with creative storage ideas.
    • Shoes: If you don't have enough space in your closet, hide those bad boys under your bed using underbed storage canisters. I would suggest storing the "special occasion" shoes under the bed since they are the ones less used. Wrap them in bubble wrap if you're worried about damage or dust.
    • Catch-all:  Where does all of that stuff in your pockets go to die every night? Try to find a cute but small basket on top of your dresser or side table that you can dump everything from your pockets in. This usually applies to men since they don't carry purses. Everything will be in one spot when you're ready to get dressed the next day!
    • Purses: Women have so many! If your closet isn't big enough to store these, place a couple of cloth baskets over the armoire in your bedroom and store them out of sight!
  • Accessories: The final tip for a sexy bedroom is accessorizing.
    • Lighting: Have night time lighting surrounding your bed. Two identical lamps will bring symmetry to your bedroom - thus making the room look cohesive.
    • Pillows: Lots of pillows on the bed placed strategically from biggest to smallest, can add a sense of sexiness to any bedroom and make the bed look and feel like an oasis.
    • Mirrors: Make the room appear larger by placing a mirror over your bed.
    • Fresh Flowers & Candles: Put a vase on your side table and change them every few days. The smell alone will make you feel at peace. You can light the candle when you and your spouse are cuddling in bed!

Do's and Don'ts
  • DON'T bring work into your bedroom. If you must work on something in bed, give yourself a time limit and then hide that laptop away.
  • DO have a few books on your bedside table that allow you to escape the real world.
  • DON'T have a pile of dirty laundry on the floor or filled to capacity in an old and ugly looking hamper.
  • DO disguise your hamper with a sexy Rattan hamper or a nice chest at the end of the bed that can double as a seating area.

Enjoyed these ideas and now you want to get started on your bedroom makeover? Drop us a note and let's get started!

TRENDY TUESDAYS: MARTHA STEWART'S NEW PAINT LINE

The Queen of crafts is back and lucky for me as an interior designer, I see a lot of potential with this new line of paint crafts.

Martha Stewart has a new paint line - stencils, paints and brushes all available at Michaels Store. The great part about it is that they can be used on glass, fabric, or furniture. As an affordable interior designer, I plan to use these in my designs. It will look great on pillows, on furniture or custom small accessories to tie in the space.

Event: "Vintage 1981" 30th Birthday Party

This designed was inspired by a vintage invitation I came across called "Vintage 1981: Aged to Perfection." The birthday girl being born in 1981 - made this shabby chic vintage decor beyond perfect! The image was used to make custom cupcake cheesecake toppers.

THE TOUCHES

Jars with antique tags and custom labels that read: "Established 1981: Inside, her favorite baked goods
Vintage inspired candle and candle holder
Shabby chic Custom made small vases
Shabby chic cupcake stand with cupcake cheesecakes and vintage cupcake toppers

Shabby chic Custom made frames
Beautiful arrangement of flowers that match the color theme

This antique shabby chic decor was one of my favorite themes so far. It mixed vintage style with whimsical pieces and just pure elegance. I wanted to do something other than your standard cupcakes so I had my baker husband extraordinaire bake some cheesecake but bake them into cupcake molds. They were the hit of the night! DELICIOUS! We did have a mishap with the cake but everything else turned out beautiful!
